The video of my talk “Reprogramming Diversity in DIY Game Design” for TEDxPSU’s 2018 Face to Face conference is now live!
In it, I discuss how the proliferation of websites and resources that help individuals from marginalized groups learn game design have also had the effect of perpetuating the belief that now “anyone” can easily have a career in game design. While these inclusivity initiatives have led to some great changes in the digital games industry, I caution against relying on these “DIY” approaches as the sole solution to diversity concerns in games culture.
